Welsh Owen Building to host art show by Maria Campbell and Rebecca Ford

Dec 15 2013

Island artist Maria Campbell will display this piece along with many others, as well as art by Rebecca Ford, at the Welsh Owen Building on Lower Queen Street in the evening of December 17th and 18th, 2013.

CHARLOTTETOWN – Island-born mixed media artists Maria Campbell and Rebecca Ford will host an art show titled, Industrial Imagination: Finding beauty in today’s everyday at the Welsh Owen Building on December 17th and 18th, 2013.

Maria, an opera singer by trade, has found a new voice in visual art and has created pieces to offer her Charlottetown audience a new perspective on some interesting components of contemporary living. Rebecca’s work also focuses on the beauty of everyday object design and the ways we take such creativity for granted. With new perspectives and experiences in hand, Rebecca’s latest work showcases the tools and manufactured environments one interacts with on a daily basis.

Maria is currently continuing her music studies at Western University in London Ontario, but after discussing bringing her show to Prince Edward Island, she was directed to online photos of the restored Kays Bros. Building – renamed the Welsh Owen Building – and decided it would be a fun, interesting and attractive setting for her show.

“When I viewed the photos online of the beautifully restored building I knew its atmosphere would be a great fit.”

Admission is free and both artists invite all members of the public to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
